2026 Conference Theme
Once Upon a Plant...
Our 2026 conference will weave together the themes of eco-herbalism, herblore and storytelling, and nature-spirit connection. While not required, we encourage you to submit multiple proposals and consider the theme in at least one of your workshop submissions.
We will be prioritizing proposals that reflect our theme.
Proposal Guidelines
To be considered, proposals must directly align with the goals of our conference and the categories outlined below. While there are many issues and topics that are very important to the herbal community and directly impact our lives and efforts, our conference is still too small to expand our workshop offerings to address many of these. Instead, personal and professional contacts we make at the conference will help us find others who are interested in being allies or partners in those efforts. Scheduled activities are reserved for offerings focused on the following topics:
Herblore/Mushroom Mythology
Mythic or Story Medicine
Herbal Medicine Practices
Medicinal Mushrooms
Sacred Plant Medicine
Folk Medicine Practices
Foraging/Wildcrafting
Earth Care
Nature Connection
A basic schedule can be viewed on the Schedule webpage if you'd like to see how the conference will flow.
Program Schedule
Types of Proposals
Standard Workshops
Duration: 1.5 hours
Workshops include lectures, discussions, and hands-on classes. Proposals should clearly fit into one of the categories listed in the guidelines. We cannot guarantee workshop dates or times; we reserve the right to schedule your class wherever it fits best in the conference schedule with possibilities ranging from Friday at 2:00pm to Sunday morning at 9:30am.
Friday Intensives
*Filled. We are no longer accepting applications for intensives*
Duration: 3 hours
We will offer 3-4 intensive workshops on Friday morning from 9:00am-12:00pm. Intensive proposals need to be unique, immersive and engaging. We recommend that you submit at least one standard workshop proposals in addition to an intensive, as intensive spots are very limited.
Story Hour Panelists
Duration: 5-10 minutes each person
Story Hour will consist of up to 6 storytellers. Each person will have the opportunity to tell a story about a special plant, tree, mushroom or wild being (river, bear, etc.) that will inspire, offer hope, impart humor, or teach an herbal concept through the art of storytelling. The story you tell can be a personal experience, an oral story, a myth or some other creative offering. We all have special stories that want to be told through us, and storytelling is such a special way to connect and keep traditions alive. When you apply to teach, you will be asked if you would like to be included in the Story Hour Panel. If you want to be a panelist but do not want to each a full class, simply email us and we'll add you to our list of folks to consider. We will make our selections based on those who express interest.
